PARTY PLANNING IDEAS
Party Timing- Countdown to the Celebration! Minimize the stress—and maximize your own potential for fun—with this basic outline for a well-planned party.
*3 – 4 Weeks Before Your Party
-
Set a date and time.
-
Set a budget.
-
Create a guest list. For planning purposes, assume that only 80 percent of invitees can attend.
-
Choose a theme. Need help? Check out Ink & Paige’s Theme Ideas page.
-
Ask for help. From a babysitter or pet sitter to a professional server, line up the help you’ll need to make the day easier.
-
Take stock. Will you have enough for serving, sitting, and sipping? Consider borrowing or renting items you don't have.
-
Order invitations. Make sure they’re stylish and unique—just like you. For the latest invites from Ink & Paige, click here.
*2 – 3 Weeks Before Your Party
-
Mail invitations. If you’re celebrating in the holiday or wedding season, send them 3 weeks ahead.
-
Plan the menu. Be realistic. Think about what you can order ahead of time (bread, cake) and what you can make on your own.
-
Buy necessary party supplies. From party favors to anything needed for activities or games.
-
Create a playlist. Use fun, upbeat tunes.
*1 Week Before Your Party
-
Clean and declutter your house. Don’t forget things like linens, china, and silverware.
-
Confirm with guests who haven’t R.S.V.P.’d.
-
Shop for groceries. Be sure to prepare dishes that can easily freeze.
-
Stock the bar. Plan on 2 drinks per guest for the first 2 hours, and 1 for each additional hour.
*2 Days Before Your Party
-
Begin food prep. Start on items that won’t spoil.
-
Designate a place for coats. Clear out a closet or use the bed in a (tidy) bedroom.
-
Give neighbors a heads up. Inform them that you’re having a party, especially if it might be noisy or require street parking.
*1 Day Before Your Party
-
Decorate. Include buying and arranging flowers.
-
Set your table or buffet.
-
Cook and prep. Finish as much as you can!
-
Touch up the house. Make sure it’s clean.
-
Charge your camera batteries.
-
Buy ice. (You can’t have too much!)
*Day of the Party
-
Finish cooking.
-
Set up games and activities.
-
Place the party favors.
-
Set out food and drink. 1 hours before guests arrive, set out appetizers that won’t spoil.
-
Take photos. You might get too busy when guests arrive.
-
Make time for yourself. Be sure to plan for some time to get ready!
-
Smile and welcome your guests. The best part is about to begin
